Public Art Opportunities

The Larrakia Cultural Centre is a place for all Larrakia people to share, celebrate and showcase Larrakia Country, Language, Culture and Art with the world.

Larrakia Artwork will be embedded within the Centre and surrounding landscape. Some of these may be free-standing sculptures, and others in the form of designs applied onto surfaces. We are seeking expressions of interest from Larrakia artists and storytellers to create these designs and artworks.

To support interested Larrakia storytellers, artists, creatives, and makers in creating designs for the LCC public arts opportunities, we will be hosting design workshops from 7-11 October 2024. The workshops are intended to support Larrakia in public art practices. If you would like to find out more about these workshops or the EOI process, please RSVP to the information session (information below).

You do not need to be a professional artist to take part. We encourage Expression of Interest (EOI’s) from Larrakia with a story to share. This includes artists, makers, designers, writers, and knowledge holders. You can submit an EOI as an individual, or with others as a group of Larrakia creatives or family.

EOI’s are now open!

Please note, Larrakia will be paid a daily fee for their participation in the workshops.

The workshops will be facilitated by a project team including the Larrakia Cultural Centre, GARUWA (Cultural Consultants), and Artify Consulting (Art Consultants). We will be joined by design mentors and industry specialists, who will help you gain an understanding of design, fabrication and installation techniques for public art.

Together, this team will help you to bring your stories, artworks, and designs to life, ready to be showcased at the Larrakia Cultural Centre.

Design workshops

Over a period of 5 days, the design workshops will explore a range of topics including public art practices, techniques, and materials and how these will apply to the Larrakia Cultural Centre. Larrakia will have opportunities to experiment with materials and processes in a supportive creative environment, working with design mentors to develop their ideas and concepts for the Larrakia Cultural Centre into public artworks. More details will be available during the information session in August.
